I am currently the Dean of the School of Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering in Mapua. I have completed all the course work and working on my PhD dissertation at the De La Salle University. I have published papers in local and international publications. I have attended various training and internships in Japan, Australia, Germany, and France. I am also a registered Patent Agent in the Philippines.
I originally trained as a tree breeding systems biologist and studied in a Costa Rican rainforest. In the mid-1980s, I shifted career direction to the emerging field of biodiversity informatics with an emphasis on museum collection computerization and networked data communications. Today, I guide a biodiversity software engineering group within the University of Kansas Biodiversity Institute. We produce and support open-source ‘Specify’ software for computerizing biological collections (specifysoftware.org). I also direct the Lifemapper Project which includes a high-performance computation platform and web services for species distribution and macroecological modeling, and for metacommunity phylogenetics (lifemapper.org).

Dr. Ling-Jyh Chen received the B.Ed. degree in information and computer education from National Taiwan Normal University in 1998, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from University of California at Los Angeles in 2002 and 2005 respectively. He joined the Institute of Information Science of Academia Sinica as Assistant Research Fellow in 2005, and became an Associate Research Fellow in 2011. His research interests are networked sensing systems, wireless and mobile networks, mobile computing, and social computing. His current research projects are comfort measuring system (CMS) of Taipei bus systems and micro-air pollution sensing systems (MAPS).
Yen-Jong Chen (陳彥仲)

I served as the department chair of Urban Planning in NCKU (2005-2008), and also, for more than 20 years, served as the reviewer of research projects for government, MoST, and academic journals.

Hsiu-Mei Chou is an associate research scientist at National Center for High-performance Computing. Her research is mainly focus on data resources management and sharing. Hsiu-Mei has been working with scientific community such as GLEON (Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network) for building data sharing infrastructure since 2013.

During his post-doc (2008-2011), Dr. Chu worked with Prof. YP Lin on the issue of understanding the pros and cons for the spatial environmental monitoring. They have extended their research goal to improve the performance of the land use change model. From 2011, he works at the Department of Geomatics, National Cheng Kung University. His works includes aiming to spatial information for cases such as air pollution, rainfall spatial estimation, LiDAR-based DEM, and GIS applications.

Febus Reidj G. Cruz is an electronics engineer, a senior researcher, and a faculty member of the School of Electrical Electronics and Computer Engineering of Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila, Philippines since June 1995 up to present. His research interests include the design, innovation, and development of microelectronic circuits and systems for different sensor applications, including wireless sensor nodes towards internet of things implementation.
Susumu Date is Associate Professor of the Cybermedia Center at Osaka University since 2008. I received my B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. from Osaka University in 1997, 2000, and 2002, respectively. I was Assistant Professor of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology at Osaka University from 2002 to 2005. I also had worked as a visiting scholar in University of California, San Diego in 2005. From 2005 to 2008, I had worked on the internationalization of education in the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology at Osaka University as a Specially-Appointed Associate Professor.
Peter Dinda is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Northwestern University where he headed the Computer Engineering and Systems division for five years. He holds a B.S. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Wisconsin and a Ph.D. in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University. He works in experimental computer systems, particularly parallel and distributed systems, and has authored over 120 scientific papers, authored or is a major contributor to several large publicly available codebases, and holds five patents. His research currently involves virtualization and operating systems for distributed and parallel computing, programming languages for parallel computing, and empathic systems for bridging individual user satisfaction and systems-level decision-making. Dr. Figueiredo is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida. His research interests are in the areas of virtualization, distributed systems, and overlays in the context of virtualized environments. His research focus on CENTRA is on peer-to-peer overlay virtual private networks for seamless, private communication among devices, leveraging research and development on the IP-over-P2P (IPOP) and SocialVPN open-source projects. Dr. Figueiredo received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Universidade de Campinas in 1994 and 1995, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University in 2001. From 2001 until 2002 he was on the faculty of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and from 2012 to 2013 he was a visiting researcher at Vrije Universiteit, the Netherlands.
I am a computer scientist and engineer teaching at the University of Florida. I am also the Director of the Advanced Computing and Information Systems (ACIS) lab. My research interests are in the areas of distributed computing, autonomic computing, computer architecture, parallel processing and fault-tolerant computing. I have also worked extensively in the development of e-science cyberinfrastructures, including PUNCH, Nanohub, FutureGrid and iDigBio. Currently, I am particularly interested in all aspects of software-defined systems and how they introduce new questions in the above-listed areas. Transnational contexts are of particular interest to me because they bring out the need for collaborative autonomics across software stacks that are deep and/or distributed among different administrative domains.
Ming Tai Ha

Ming Tai Ha is a first year graduate student at Rutgers University. He is also a member of the Research in Advanced Distributed Cyberinfrastructure and Application Laboratory. As an undergraduate, he double majored in Material Science and Mathematics at Rutgers University. Recently, he received the GAANN (Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need) Fellowship to develop tools to help bioinformaticians sequence DNA. He intends to take his experience from his undergraduate research in order to develop scalable scientific computing solutions for researchers in various fields.
Jason Haga is a Senior Research Scientist in the Information Technology Research Institute of AIST. His past research work involved the design and implementation of applications for grid computing environments and tiled display walls. Jason has over 11 years of collaborative efforts with members of the PRAGMA community and continues to look for opportunities, both within the community and abroad.

Grace Hong has recently joined ACIS Lab as a Research Programs Coordinator for international collaborative initiatives, in particular CENTRA. She received her MSc in Organizational & Social Psychology from London School of Economics and Political Science in 2008. Grace has been involved in facilitating grassroots scientific community development such as PRAGMA and GLEON (Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network) for data & resources sharing, people and sensor/e-Science networks building as ‘learning organizations’ since 2003.
Grace is experienced in participatory decision-making facilitation, team science leadership skills & cross-cultural sensitivity training for early-career scientists, projects and events management, meeting designs & evaluation, and social media communications for scientific community development & outreach. She is also a Post-it notes enthusiast.

As the Assistant Vice President for Technology Augmented Research at FIU, Dr. Julio E. Ibarra is responsible for furthering the mission of the Center for Internet Augmented Research and Assessment (CIARA) – to contribute to the pace and the quality of research at FIU through the application of advanced Cyberinfrastructure. He is responsible for strategic planning and development of advanced research networking services, including the development and management of the AMPATH International Exchange Point for Research and Education networks. He is the Principal Investigator of the Americas Lightpaths (AmLight), an NSF-OCI International Research Networks Connection funded project (#OCI-0963053), which involves planning and implementation of high-performance international network connections to enhance U.S. e-science initiatives in Latin America. He has been PI and Co-PI on several other NSF grants to broaden participation in science and engineering research and education through the application of Information and Communications Technology.
Dr. Ibarra has been active in initiatives to advance networking and Internet technologies for the State of Florida. He is a board member of the Florida Lambda Rail, LLC – Florida’s research and education network initiative. He served on the Governor’s IT Florida Task Force subcommittee on Infrastructure and Technology Development, as a subject matter expert. He is co-author of the policy recommendation for the development of a Network Access Point (NAP) in South Florida to enhance the State’s e-Commerce opportunities with Latin America.”
Kohei Ichikawa is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Information Science at Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan. His past research work involved the design and development of middleware and applications for Grid, virtualized infrastructures and Software Defined Network testbed. He currently works on the PRAGMA project, developing an international Software Defined Networking Testbed for use by the PRAGMA researchers.
Shantenu is an Associate Professor of Computer Engineering at Rutgers University. His research interests lie at the triple point of High-performance distributed computing, Computational Science and Cyberinfrastructure; more details can be found at http://radical.rutgers.edu. Shantenu leads the RADICAL-Cybertools (http://radical-cybertools.github.com) project which are a suite of standards-driven and abstractions-based tools used to support large-scale science and engineering applications. He has won several awards at leading supercomputing conferences for the application of high-performance distributed computing to computational science. His research is supported by the US DOE and NSF, including the CAREER Award. He was appointed a Rutgers Chancellor Scholar in 2015. Away from work, Jha indulges in middle-distance running and the quest for the perfect bad joke!
Shih-Chung Jessy Kang

Prof. Shih-Chung Jessy Kang, Ph.D. of Stanford University, is currently a professor in department of civil engineering in National Taiwan University. His research focuses on the advanced visual and robotics tools for engineering purposes. He developed multiple methods on the automation and simulation for crane operations. He is now the editor-in-chief of Visualization in Engineering. He edited multiple special issues on the topics related to the visualization and robotics applications. Prof. Kang is also an active researcher on innovative engineering education. He offers courses on engineering graphics, game development, data visualization and robotics and was award as NTU excellent teacher. His coursera course on engineering graphic was ranked top 2% MOOCs among Chinese learners.
Eiji Kawai joined NICT in 2009 and has been conducting research on advanced networking technologies for Future Internet as director of Network Testbed R&D Laboratory. He is now interested in deployment of SDN/SDI technologies on large-scale network infrastructure for IoT applications.

Yoshiyuki Kido is an Associate Professor of the Cybermedia Center, Osaka University. He received his Ph.D. from Osaka University in 2008. He was a Specially-appointed Assistant Professor of the Center for Advanced Medical Engineering and Informatics, Osaka University from 2008 to 2011.
He was a Specially-appointed Researcher of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Osaka University from 2011 to 2012. He worked in RIKEN, the HPCI Program for Computational Life Science from 2012 to 2013. He became a Specially-appointed Associate Professor of the Cybermedia Center, Osaka University in 2013.
His research field is computer science with bioscience and his current research interests include visualization, software defined networking, high-performance computing and related information technologies.

Li-Chi Ku is an NCHC engineer working for Taiwan Advanced Research and Education Network (TWAREN). His research interests focus on technologies of Software Defined Network (SDN) testbeds and multi-domain network control. He takes it as a mission to bring network technology to more possible domestic and international applications and collaborations.

I-En Liao is currently a professor and chair in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at National Chung-Hsing University, Taiwan. His research interests are in data mining, XML database, big data analytics and information security. He is a member of the ACM and the IEEE Computer Society.
I am a professor of Computer Science, Director of the Laboratory for Advanced Visualization and Applications (in Hawaii) and Director Emeritus of the Electronic Visualization Lab (at the University of Illinois at Chicago). My interest is in cyber-infrastructure hardware and software technologies for collaborative data visualization in science, engineering as well as in the arts and humanities. Some of my recent projects include: the CAVE2 hybrid reality environment, SAGE and SAGE2 - Scalable Amplified Group Environment, NetSage - the network monitoring and visualization platform for National Science Foundation’s International Research Network Connections program, and Articulate - an automated way to translate natural language into visualizations.

Dr. Fang-Pang Lin obtained his PhD in University of Wales at Swansea, UK in 1995. He worked in Rolls-Royce University Computing Center in Oxford University as a research scientist after one-year postdoctoral research in Swansea. He joined NCHC in Oct1997 and has been working in numerical simulation and software engineering regarding application integration.
Dr. Jason Liu is an Associate Professor at the School of Computing and Information Sciences at Florida International University. His research focuses on parallel discrete-event simulation and high-performance modeling and simulation of computer networks and computer systems, funded by NSF, DHS, DOD, and DOE. Dr. Liu is an NSF CAREER Award recipient and an ACM Distinguished Scientist. He served as general chairs and program chairs for several conferences, and on the technical committees for many system and network modeling and simulation conferences. He is currently a Steering Committee member for ACM SIGSIM-PADS, and is on the editorial board for ACM TOMACS and SCS SIMULATION.

I am currently the Knowledge Management Division Chief of the Advanced Science and Technology Institute. I graduated from the University of the Philippines (Diliman) where I took my bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering and Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Two years ago, we started implementing the CoARE (Computing and Archiving Research Environment) Project where we offer general purpose virtual machines, HPC and storage services to local researchers. This year, I will be proposing a new project that deals in the areas of Big Data Analytics, IoT and Smart Cities. As this will be a new area for us, our organization is very much open for international collaboration in the above topics.

Toshiyuki Miyachi is the director of Hokuriku StarBED technology center, National Institute of Information and Communications Technology(NICT). He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Information Science at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(JAIST) in 2002 and 2007 respectively. He and his research group focused on several topics on network testbed especially by utilizing StarBED; network architecture of testbed; reproduction of disaster situation & building platform to evaluate disaster recovery technologies; educational use of network testbed; IoT testbed and so forth.

He was at IBM Yamato Laboratory, Tokyo Research Laboratory, and IBM Texas Austin from 1994 till 2005. He received M.S.(2001) and Ph.D.(2005) in Computer Science from Princeton University. He has been teaching as an associate professor (2005-2014) and as a full professor (2014-present) in Applied Computer Science, at Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, the University. He has been appointed as Chairman of 5GMF Network Architecture Committee since 2014.”
Tho Nguyen is the Managing Director of the Center for Automata Processing (CAP) and Senior Research Program Officer in the Computer Science Department at the University of Virginia. Tho is primarily responsible for project and program development . Tho obtained his PhD from the Department of Electrical Engineering (Systems, Controls & Robotics) at the University of Washington in 2009. His past work focused on sensing, modeling, and application of controls for large-scale environmental systems. Tho’s current research interest is in extending cyber-physical systems theory and technologies to mitigate the impact of disruptions to large scale systems (i.e., resiliency). Tho has had extensive international research experience and was previously funded by NSF and USAID. Prior to joining UVa, Tho served as a AAAS Fellow appointed to the National Science Foundation, where he worked on the Cyber-Physical Systems Program (2013-2015). He is also a former J. William Fulbright Fellow to Vietnam.

Dr. Papadopoulos received his PhD in 1993 from UC Santa Barbara in Electrical Engineering. He is currently the Chief Technology Officer at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC). He is the architect of the NSF-funded Comet Cluster which will support high-performance virtual clusters. In addition to duties at SDSC, his research interests revolve around distributed, clustered, and cloud-based systems and how they can be used more effectively in an expanding bandwidth-rich environment. Dr. Papadopoulos is a key investigator for key research projects at UCSD including the The National Biomedical Computation Resource(NBCR) and the Pacific Rim Applications and Grid Middlware Assembly (PRAGMA, OCI-1234983) He is well known for leading the development of the open-source, NSF-funded Rocks Cluster toolkit (OCI-0721623). He is also the principal investigator for the Prism@UCSD A Researcher Defined 10 and 40Gbit/s Campus Scale Data Carrier (NSF:ACI-1246396). Prism is deployed at UCSD and serves about one dozen data intensive labs on the UCSD campus.

Frederick Kin Hing Phoa

Dr. Frederick Kin Hing Phoa is an Associate Research Fellow of Institute of Statistical Science at Academia Sinica (ISSAS), Taiwan since 2013, with a joint appointment as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Statistics at National Central University, Taiwan. He received his B.S. degrees in chemistry and applied mathematics, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in statistics from University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2002, 2007 and 2009 respectively. He was an Assistant Research Fellow of ISSAS from 2009 to 2013. His research currently involves social network analysis, nature-inspired evolutionary algorithm, parallel computing, big data analytics, and designs and analysis of experiments.
Beth A. Plale is a Full Professor of Informatics and Computing at Indiana University where she directs the Data To Insight Center and is Science Director of the Pervasive Technology Institute. Professor Plale’s postdoctoral studies were at Georgia Institute of Technology, and her PhD in computer science from State University of New York Binghamton. Her deep interest in technology for societal change arises in part from the MBA she received while working as a software developer in Southern California. Plale is founder and Co-director of the HathiTrust Research Center which provisions analysis to nearly 14 million digitized books from research libraries, past chair of the Research Data Alliance Technical Advisory Board (TAB), and is vice-chair of RDA/US. She is Department of Energy (DOE) Early Career Awardee and past Fellow of the Midwest university consortium CIC’s Academic Leadership Program.
Glenn Ricart is founder and CTO of US Ignite, a nonprofit creating an ecosystem of innovative applications and services in smart gigabit communities enabled by software-driven infrastructure. US Ignite brings together corporations, cities and regions, government, nonprofits, and academic to make and deploy these innovative applications and services. Dr. Ricart is also Adjunct Professor in the School of Computing at the University of Utah. Previously, Glenn was CEO of National LambdaRail, Managing Director of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Executive Vice President and CTO of Novell during its heyday, Program Manager at DARPA, and Assistant Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and academic CIO at the University of Maryland. Dr. Ricart was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame as an Internet Pioneer in 2013. He is also the founder or co-founder of five startups raising a combined total of $190M.

Dr. Ce-Kuen Shieh received Ph.D degree in electrical engineering from National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan in 1988. He joined the faculty in EE Department at National Cheng Kung University from 1983, and was promoted to Full Professor in 1998. He ever visited Bell Laboratory, Murry Hill, New Jersey, U.S.A as a Postdoctoral Member of Technical Staff (PMTS) during 1989-1990. He had chaired the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Cheng-Kung University during 2002 – 2005 and served as the Director of Computer and Network Center, National Cheng-Kung University from 2005 to 2011. Currently, he serves as the Director General of National Center for High-performance Computing, National Applied Research Laboratory, Taiwan (2013~).
Shinji Shimojo received the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees from Osaka University in 1983 and 1986, respectively. He has been a Professor with the Cybermedia Center(then the Computation Center) at Osaka University and the director of the Center. He is an executive researcher at National Institute of Information and Communications Technology and a director of Network Testbed Research and Development Promotion Center.
Shava Smallen is a programmer at the San Diego Supercomputer Center at UC San Diego. She currently works on the international Pacific Rim Application and Grid Middleware Assembly (PRAGMA) project, developing a Cloud test bed scheduler and support tools to enable scientists to run application virtual clusters on PRAGMA cloud resources. Smallen also is the project lead and developer for the Inca monitoring software tool and principal investigator on the “AMASS - An Automated Monitoring AnalySis Service for Cyberinfrastructure” project to facilitate science gateway use of cyberinfrastructure resources. She also is the deputy director for the Software Development and Integration (SD&I) group in XSEDE, which uses best software engineering practices to deliver high quality software thru XSEDE Operations to Service Providers, End Users, and Campuses
I am the lead engineer for Lifemapper, a project publishing data and tools for biological and ecological research. Tools include single-species species niche modeling and multi-species macro-ecological analyses. My formal education is in Computer Science and Geography, but I have been working in the field of Biodiversity Informatics for the last 15 years.
Ken is a doctoral candidate in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Florida. He is currently a Research Assistant in the Advanced Computing and Information Systems (ACIS) Laboratory under the guidance of Dr. Renato Figueiredo. His research interests lie in IO virtualization (with an emphasis in storage and networking), software system design and tightly coupled concurrent programming.
Valerie Taylor is the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the Dwight Look College of Engineering and the Regents Professor and Royce E. Wisenbaker Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University. She is also the Executive Director of the Center for Minorities and People with Disabilities in IT (CMD-IT). Dr. Taylor is an IEEE Fellow and has received numerous awards for distinguished research and leadership, including the 2001 IEEE Harriet B. Rigas Award for a woman with significant contributions in engineering education, the 2002 Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni from the University of California at Berkeley, the 2002 CRA Nico Habermann Award for increasing the diversity in computing, and the 2005 Tapia Achievement Award for Scientific Scholarship, Civic Science, and Diversifying Computing. Dr. Taylor earned her B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering and M.S. in Computer Engineering from Purdue University in 1985 and 1986, respectively, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1991.
Hui Ping Tsai

Hui Ping Tsai received the Ph.D. degree in geography from the University of Florida in 2012. Currently, she is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Center for Environmental Restoration and Disaster Reduction in NCHU. Recently, she work on investigating vegetation (using NDVI as a surrogate) and climate variabilities in Taiwan and would like to assess associations between them.

Whey-Fone Tsai obtained his PhD in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Iowa, USA. He joined National Center for High-performance Computing (NCHC), Taiwan in 1993. From 1998 to 2009, he served as the deputy director of NCHC, and in 2008-2009 he was named the acting director of Taiwan Typhoon and Flood Research Institute. 2007~till now, he has been PI of multidisciplinary research projects, “3D GIS Taiwan” and “Disaster Management Information Platform” covering disaster management and environmental monitoring associated with HPC, cloud computing, and big data analytics. Meantime, he is also the adjunct professor in the Department of Hydraulics and Ocean Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan.

Yasuhiro Watashiba is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Information Science at Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan. He received his Ph.D. degrees from Osaka University in 2015. His current research interests include Resource Management on computing environment and related information technologies.

Worked at the University of California, San Diego since 1991. Received an M.S. Computer Science from UCSD in 2002. Worked in Switzerland 2006 - 2009 at Swiss National Supercomputing Center and the University of Zurich managing the Swiss Multi-Science Computing Grid project across multiple sites, including project planning and management, proposal and report writing, and technical tasks of deployment of Grid middleware. Currently, serve as functional lead in the design, specification and evaluation of software architectures that will be scalable and reusable for current and future environments for use by the NBCR community and a member of PRAMGA cloud infrastructure developers team at UCSD.
Dr. S. Felix Wu received his BS from Tunghai University, Taiwan in 1985, MS., and Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1989 and 1995 respectively, all in Computer Science. He is a Professor of Computer Science and Associate Dean, College of Engineering at University of California at Davis. He is interested in “experimental” research, i.e., building prototype systems to justify and validate novel architectural concepts. His most recent work is the SINCERE (Social Interaction Networks, Conversation Entropy Ranking Engine) project, which leverages social science principles in information analysis and computational applications.
Xingfu Wu is a TEES Research Associate Professor at Texas A&M University. He is a senior ACM member. His research interests are performance evaluation and modeling, power modeling, parallel and cloud computing, scientific computing, energy-efficient computing, and power and energy analysis in HPC systems. His monograph: Performance Evaluation, Prediction and Visualization of Parallel Systems, was published by Kluwer Academic Publishers (ISBN 0-7923-8462-8) in 1999. He won the best paper award in the 14th IEEE International Conference on Computational Science and Engineering in 2011.

Ming-Der Yang is a Professor with the Department of Civil Engineering, National Chung Hsing University. He has devoted himself into the field of disaster investigation for many years and published many international journal research papers. Recently, research efforts have been put on developing 3-D reconstruction technology on remote sensing images for disaster monitoring and assessment.
